Race Amity

Five Tuesdays, 4:30-6PM, Sept 27-Oct 25, in person at the Port Townsend Public Library's Pink House

Optional Race Amity Walk on Sunday, Oct 9

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Race Amity is a vitally important idea for America’s future. The five-part class keys off the documentary project, “An American Story: Race Amity and The Other Tradition.” It seeks to move the public discourse on race from the “blame/grievance/rejection” cycle to a view from a different lens, the lens of “amity/collaboration/access and equity.” The moral counterweight of friendship and collaboration, which have always been present in our history, represents “the other tradition.”

After a half-hour video episode, we will hear relevant local stories of people overcoming racial prejudice through association, amity, and collaboration. This “other tradition” is a source of inspiration and celebrates unknown legacies to be absorbed and emulated. Discussion follows! Let us learn from each other.

Participants will also be invited to join The Race Amity Walk on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 9, beginning in Chetzemoka Park with community activities.
