Author Talk with Eric Vickrey
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 1968 amateur draft class—which included Steve Garvey, Bobby Valentine, Bill Buckner, Davey Lopes, Ron Cey, Tom Paciorek, Joe Ferguson, Doyle Alexander, and Geoff Zahn—is regarded as the greatest in baseball history. In 1970, most of the Dodgers' class of '68 played for the Spokane Indians under Tommy Lasorda, forming one of the most talented minor-league teams ever assembled. This colorful cast of characters defeated the Hawaii Islanders that year to win the Pacific Coast League championship. Later, the class of '68 and Lasorda formed the foundation of multiple pennant-winning teams in Los Angeles.
Baseball author and Port Townsend resident Eric Vickrey tells the story of Lasorda, the Dodgers' 1968 draft class, and the 1970 Spokane Indians in his latest book, Before They Wore Dodger Blue. Eric will give a PowerPoint talk about the book and its Pacific Northwest connections, followed by a Q&A.
