Local author, educator, and publisher Arendt Oak Speser will read from his 2019 release, The Book of Dudley. Written over multiple years and settings--including some sections composed in the Port Townsend Library Carnegie Reading Room--The Book of Dudley explores the interior and exterior life of a marginalized anti-hero, struggling to make sense of himself through dreams and a coarse sense of humor. Part vagabond and part visionary, Dudley tries to reconcile with memories and needs which take shape in both classic and contemporary form, oscillating between verse and prose to stretch into a continuous narrative poem.
Rose Burt, who illustrated the book, will also participate in a Q&A after the reading. The Book of Dudley will be available for purchase.
