My Great Swedish Adventure: The power of libraries, family, and travel in pandemic

In 2021, Port Townsend Public Library Director Melody Sky Weaver starred on the Swedish reality television show Allt för Sverige (known in the US as The Great Swedish Adventure). The show takes ten Americans to Sweden to trace their Swedish ancestry and meet their living relatives. Weaver will recap her life-changing journey of traveling and meeting family during the pandemic and share fun behind the scenes stories of what it is like to be in a foreign country on a reality TV show. She will also talk about the library's genealogical resources and how they helped her get cast on the show.
About Melody:
Melody Sky Weaver, Port Townsend Public Library Director has a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture and postmodern visual culture from Boise State University. She previously worked as a public arts professional and librarian in Boise, Idaho. In Idaho, she was awarded the prestigious Idaho Woman Making History award for her community artwork. She was honored as one of Kitsap Peninsula Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty in 2012 for her work with community building in her position at the library. In 2018 she and our Carnegie Library were featured in the New York Times in the article “Twelve Authors Write About the Libraries They Love.” In 2019 she was awarded the President’s Distinguished Service Award from the Pacific Northwest Library Association, for her work with Brianna Hoffman on analyzing the benefits of LEADS and recommending future actions for a leadership program. She is a proud graduate of Leadership Kitsap and the Northwest Women’s Leadership Academy. Weaver lives in Little Norway with her wonderful hubby, two silly dogs, and three vocal cats. She loves hiking in the Olympics with her husband and their dogs Gryfin and Rogue, creating art, and one of her favorite books is A Wrinkle in Time.
