This report supplements the Jefferson County 2018 Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions as well as the 2020 Greenhouse Gas Community Emissions Reduction Opportunities report, a deeper analysis of opportunities to reduce carbon emissions countywide.

These reports were undertaken to help guide next steps in reducing community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with the goal to reduce emissions to a level 80% lower than those measured in 1990 by the year 2050. Jefferson County’s forests and trees play a role in removing CO2 from the atmosphere and improving the net balance of greenhouse gases in our community. Next steps include policy recommendations and actions individuals can take to increase CO2 removal.

Cindy Jayne commented about the report “It was interesting to learn how our forests in Jefferson County are some of the best in the nation for removing CO2, and the various factors that influence the level of removal”. For more information about the Climate Action Committee and the reports, see www.co.jefferson.wa.us/637/Climate-Action-Committee. The Climate Action Committee meets every other month on the 2nd Tuesday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm, and are open to all. The next committee meeting is on December 13.
