Building

Planning and Community Development's Building Team works diligently to safeguard public health, safety, and general welfare. Staff perform commercial and residential plan review and inspections to ensure compliance with adopted building codes.

Building Permits

Building permits are required for most projects, even for some minor projects, sheds, and other smaller structures, as well as for plumbing, mechanical, and other improvements.  Read the handouts linked below before starting your project.  Failing to get a permit may result in a stop work notice, double permit fees, and redoing work that is not to code.

Permit applications are also reviewed for compliance with setbacks, lot coverage, and other zoning requirements. Please note that work within a critical area, shoreline, or historic district may require additional land use permits through our Planning Division.  Read our Permitting Services page for more information and apply online.
