The PT Police Department welcomed new Police Officer JJ Smith in September 2022

Hello! My name is JJ Smith. I am excited to serve the Port Townsend community as a Port Townsend Police Officer. After working as a police officer for the Port Angeles Police Department the past five years, I decided it was time to go back to school. I took a year off patrol to work on some of my pre-requisites as well as be more available for my family.  After some time, it was clear I still wanted to serve as a police officer while still working on other goals, so the decision to come work for the city of Port Townsend was an easy choice to make.

Outside of work, I do a lot of mountaineering and have gotten to climb all of Washingtons volcanos. My fiancé Shawn and I are avid hikers and love to go backpacking/climbing. We enjoy finding areas of Olympic National Park that most people don’t venture out to! My daughter Ayah and I enjoy going to concerts and we go as often as we can and love to make a trip of it, so if you have band suggestions to go see live, let me know! We also love to travel and can’t wait to take my daughter on her first international trip next year before she goes off to college.
